Assessing and Diagnosing Your Pain
All patients must begin with a referral to the Upper Michigan Pain Center Network from their primary care physician. Your primary care physician can send a referral by fax to 906.225.4583. With the referral from your primary care physician, the PM&R providers and their team will assess, evaluate, and diagnose your pain. They also can provide electromyography (EMG) testing in the office.

PLEASE NOTE | Scheduling-related questions should be directed to Central Scheduling at 906.449.1445. Neither the IPC staff or Dr. Mehall's staff are in charge of scheduling procedures.
PLEASE NOTE | Before patients can schedule a treatment or procedure with the IPC, patients must first be seen by a PM&R or other physician's office (Neurosurgery, Neurology, etc). The PM&R or other physician will order and pre-authorize your treatment or procedures that will be completed by the IPC. Once your insurance company pre-authorizes your procedure, the Central Scheduling Office will contact you by phone to make your appointment.
The only case where this process will change is when the pain patient becomes a candidate for neuromodulation (SCS or DRG). PM&R offices or your physician who is managing your pain will refer candidates for SCS or DRG to be seen in consultation with Dr. Christopher Mehall at his private clinic office at 717 W. Washington St. If you are a referring physician wanting to have a patient evaluated for SCS or DRG, you will fax the referral to Dr. Mehall’s office at 906.273.1823. Dr. Mehall’s office number is 906.273.1821 if there are questions about the referral.
